APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 15TH

INFO

We are looking for emerging curators, interested in organizing a contemporary group exhibition, that will be shown in our space for one month as part of our 2026 programming. This is not a call for the personal presentation of artwork (that application can be found below).

Expected workload: 15 hours a week for up to 5 weeks. All participants of this project will receive compensation according to the CARFAC 2026 fee guidelines.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Propose a clear curatorial concept for a group exhibition.

  • Research and select 3–6 emerging artists whose work aligns with your proposed theme or concept.

  • Maintain communication with selected artists regarding artwork selection, deadlines, and installation requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with Crawlspace’s lead curator and collective members to plan the exhibition timeline.

  • Participate in mentorship meetings with local established curators.

  • Attend regular check-ins with Crawlspace staff to update progress and receive support.

  • Assist with the layout planning and physical installation of the exhibition (with support from Crawlspace members).

Crawlspace is located on the ancestral land of the Siksikaitsitapi – Blackfoot Confederacy which includes the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani Nations and the shared territories of the Tsuut’ina Nation as well as the Iyarhe Nakoda-Stoney which includes Bearspaw, Chiniki, Good Stoney Nations and also the home of the Métis Nation of District 5 and 6. The City of Calgary has long been called Mohkínstsis by the Siksikaitsitapi, Guts’ists’i by the Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Nakoda.

Mohkínstsis is the home of Crawlspace, and we recognize it has always been first shaped by the Siksikaitsitapi, Tsuut’ina, and Nakoda-Stoney Nations.
